Light, nature’s gift |
The photoelectric effect was discovered 160 years ago by a Frenchman named Antoine Becquerel. The technical breakthrough however occurred just in the fifties thru the aerospace when the first satellites were equipped with photovoltaic cells. Yet, their high cost prevented using them on earth. At the end it took till the eighties, when the first oil crisis gave reason to turn the attention back to photovoltaic again. Since then a constant development on the industrial side leads to democratization of the price and reliable systems. According to the International Energy agency, 25% of all energy should be supplied by sunlight by the year 2050. Light is vital and after all it would be a shame not using it. |
